Press Release March 2011

Entry is now open for one of Lowestoft’s biggest fundraising events.

Runners and walkers are being encouraged to sign up for the WaterWalk that will take place along the Lowestoft seafront on Sunday, September 18 2011 and raise vital funds in the fight against cancer.

The event, which is sponsored by Essex & Suffolk Water, is now in its fifth year and has already raised more than £20,000 for Cancer Research UK..

It is hoped that hundreds of people will complete either a three or five mile course raising thousands of pounds in sponsorship for the life saving charity.

Walkers and runners of all ages and abilities can take part to complete the course from Royal Green along the famous Lowestoft coastline and the picturesque cliffs of Pakefield.

The event will be followed by the release of dozens of balloons with messages of hope as a reminder of the critical need to beat a disease which can be devastating.

One of the organisers James Muir, said: “With spring in the air, now is the perfect time to dust off you trainers and sign up for WaterWalk. Whether you are a serious runner or want to join us for a gentle stroll along the beautiful Lowestoft coastline, we would really love you to take part.

“This event is a brilliant way to bring the local community together in the fight against cancer. We are now in our fifth year and the incredible stories of many of our participants and supporters never fail to move me. It is a real reminder of why fundraising like this for Cancer Research UK is so important.”

New Poster In Lowestoft

Every year we go crazy delivering leaflets, placing adverts in the paper and contacting business left right and centre and this year we have taken another step...  We have (thanks to Essex & Suffolk Water) our first large poster on Lowestoft Sea Front...  We hope that it will be seen by hundreds, if not thousands over the coming weeks, which will really promote the event.

Twittering Mad!!!

Boy George Twitters WaterWalk - 24th April 2010

Over the last week we have been working hard to promote WaterWalk and we are using twitter to gain as many supporters as we can, today one of the team (Karl) asked Boy George to twitter our WaterWalk message and we are so please that he was kind enough to do so.

It is actions like this that make the efforts we are putting in to this event so worthwhile.  Over the last 4 years we have raised £13k and this year we hope to really push the event and make it something that everyone in the East of England if not further a field are aware of.

Thank you Boy George.

Come back to find out whats happening with WaterWalk, how the team are getting on with the 2010 event planning and much more!
